Main reading: Kaag & van Belle, Ch. 3; review Toulmin articles (below right) and Aristotelian (classical) argument sample (below Toulmin)
Supplemental reading: Lawrence Chs. 10, 11, & 12
This is the same Toulmin reading we had earlier in the semester. I'm including it here so you don't have to hunt for it.
You may notice that it uses slightly different terminology in a couple of places. I've been using the terminology in the infographic at left, which is Toulmin's (the terms, not the infographic).
This Aristotelian argument is not new, either—we had it a couple of weeks ago, along with the Toulmin packet.
If you didn't get a chance to read it before, now is the time!
Chapter 3: classical arrangement (introduction, case, refutation, conclusion) and the six parts of a Toulmin argument.
In class: Toulmin Deep Dive Workshop (see below)
Online beginning Friday: Grammar workshop slide show on pronoun errors, capitalization, apostrophes. Quiz 3 on D2L.
Please read the directions carefully before you begin.
You won't be able to type into the document in Google Drive, so just have one person in your group write down answers on a sheet of paper. You can even take turns doing that if you like—it's entirely up to your study team.
This is a large file, so you may need to download it to watch it.
